Modems

If you have a PC, run MS Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, have or are thinking about getting a 28,800, 33,600 or 56K bps modem, and use or plan to use SLIP or PPP to access the Internet under Win95 or Win3.x, then you'll want to visit this site! Curt's High Speed Modem Page

Can't Stay Connected?

The two most common reasons for a lost connection (hang-up) are inactivity timers and modem-related troubles...

Inactivity Time-outs: Internet is a resource none of us should waste. For that reason, like all other ISPs, CCtrap's system automatically disconnections after a period of inactivity. After an average of 17-20 minutes of not touching the keyboard or mouse, you can expect the system to automatically disconnect.
For this reason, many software packages have configurations to set the disconnection inactivity time, and many email packages disconnect after sending/checking mail. The best policy is to logout when you'll be offline for more than 15 minutes.

Modems - Phone Lines, configuration errors? Almost anything can cause a modem to hang up. Call waiting, line noise, etc.

It worked last night, now it doesn't! Could it be a temporary busy signal? Some modem software won't tell you the reason you can't connect is simply a busy signal - or the phone line is unplugged! As an early troubleshooting test, make sure you can hear modem connect noises.
